The aim of this project was to create a roof of feature trusses from large Douglas fir beams which came from the property. The client asked for a design which was eye-catching and traditional using Irish timbers which would draw the eye up to a vaulted ceiling. The white sheeted ceiling perfectly shows off the warm colours of Douglas fir. A line of purlins with wind braces at either end give stability to the roof structure while being in themselves an aesthetic detail. Once each joint was marked and cut the robust beams were scraped and hewn to achieve a distinctive handmade rustic style.
